Overview
What this course covers
Geometrical Product Specification is the standardised language for stating, on a drawing, exactly what geometry a manufactured part must hold. This course covers GPS according to current ISO standards: the interpretation and correct application of geometric tolerances, datum systems, modifiers, surface requirements, and measurement uncertainty.
The course works through how a GPS specification connects design intent, manufacturing, and inspection — the same specification has to be readable and unambiguous to all three. Applying GPS correctly reduces production errors and improves the clarity of engineering documentation.
OUTCOMES
What you'll learn
Apply geometric tolerances to drawings in line with ISO GPS standards
Read and use GPS symbols correctly, including datum references
Define and manage datum systems
Apply modifiers and material conditions, including the maximum material principle and Taylor’s principle
Specify surface roughness, surface imperfections, and edge requirements
Account for measurement uncertainty when setting and checking specifications
Produce engineering documentation that design, manufacturing, and inspection can interpret consistently
